M23 Closure

Following reports of the M23 Road Closure on 20th December 2019 due to flooding, we at tifgroup would like to clarify what cover may be available.

Missed Departure

Usually this type of event is unfortunately not covered across the travel insurance industry for claims relating to missed departure. This is because most policies have the following conditions for missed departure claims “the vehicle in which you are travelling to your international departure point becomes un-driveable due to mechanical failure or being involved in an accident or your public transport is delayed, preventing you from being able to check-in on time for your outward departure from the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or BFPO”. However, we would always suggest that you always check your specific policy wording for more information on this and to find out whether you have cover or not.

Cancellation

Usually this type of event is unfortunately not covered across the travel insurance industry for claims relating to cancellation. This is because most policies have the specified reasons for cancellation such as, illness or injury; jury service or court of law requirements; redundancy and HM forces requirements. However, we would always suggest that you always check your specific policy wording for more information on this and to find out whether you have cover or not.

We would suggest that you contact your airline/carrier and seek their advice on what they recommend as the best course of action for you.

In the event that you have specific questions not answered by this directive, please contact your insurance company directly either by email or over the phone.
